Hometown:
Salem, Va. Original home town? Sacremento, Calif.
Relationship Status:
Married
About Me:
I'm a 50 year old male with 3 daughters, 4 cats and one very patient and tolerant wife .. You can often find me hinding amidst our 2 acres of flowers, berries and fruit trees.

Want a snap shot of my daily life? I'm homeschooling a 10 and 13 year old while trying to grow cut flowers for market... I'm also connected at the hip to a brother who breathes rocket fuel and literally feeds on the concept of 'changing the world... today.. if not sooner'. (The creator of NHNE)

In shorthand, that means my email box, mailbox (DVD's), iChat and Skype connections and phone line are the pipeline for ALL the ideas on the planet...

In my spare time I also love working on dreams, (mine and everyone else's) gardening, reading, hiking and traveling. I particularly love visits to Sedona, Arizona.

What do you do to make a living?
Growing organic cut flowers and delivering fresh cut bouquets as a subscription service to individuals and businesses.

My ideal job is one that allows me to weave many different sides of myself into a harmonious expression of who I really am. That would involve gardening and a close connection to the earth, dream work with self and others, time for children and family and outreach in service to the larger community through education (parenting and relationship skills, birthing, dreams, ideals and belief systems etc.)
In short.. living the 'change' I want to see in the world.
What kind of hobbies do you have?
Dreamwork. Gardening. Hiking. Travel.
Reading, watching and visiting multiple and diverse topics and places. A big part of my lifestyle is trying to see the meaning underneath it all. I love the psychology and humanity of each of us and wish to understand how it knits all of us together.
In a world where you were pursuing your deepest, most heartfelt callings, what would you be doing?
Assisting others in using dreams their dreams to empower their lives and their healing.
Reviving the awareness of the earth as somethig to treasure and treat with respect.
Learning and teaching about how we are the co-creators of our existence, our relationships with the planet and loved ones.
What is the most important thing you have learned in your life?
We ARE the co-creators of all that we're experiencing. If we want to change or improve our lives we must change ourselves and our understanding of ourselves.
Describe a belief that you previously held and then subsequently changed. What caused you to change your mind?
Reading and listening to voices outside myself as a way to chart my course in life. Bad idea... one ends up wearing 'clothing' that not only doesn't fit but which can be very uncomfortable.

Change: Trust one's own feelings and inner voice over external the voices found within books and the media that surround us.

Personal dream work, the inspiration contained within my dreams and actual experience - changed my mind.
Who do you admire most in the world (past and/or present) and why?
The Jesus that is not found in the dogma of these times.. the loving and kind Jesus of the Gospels who lived a life so eloquently that others were moved and ended up seeing themselves more clearly- both their Divine nature and those aspects of themselves needing to change.
Edgar Cayce for similiar reasons.
My brother for his enthusiasm and sheer love of connecting people.
At this turbulent moment in history, what do you think is the most important thing a person can do to help humankind (and the rest of the planet) survive the many dangers that confront us?
Learn empathy and tolerance of those who are first perceived as different or a threat to our beliefs and culture. To look UNDERNEATH the external appearances, actions and dogmas to a place that sees how alike we all are.. to find common ground amidst our diversity. And to hold the same attitude toward the planet itself. There is a path that would allow a harmonious knitting of the human race into the fabric of diverse life forms IF we would shift our attitudes away from one of dominance toward one that looks more deeply at the planets diversity and respects it. A new vision is needed. One that values and recognizes the necessity and blessings found within different life forms, different people and cultures... to maximize the experience of all.
What are your answers to the big questions: Who are we? Where are we from? Why are we here? Where are we headed?
We are beings incarnated in the earth to learn how to express more fully our real selves... to learn how to love, how to express and receive love in diverse and challenging situations... and, to create a better world through such an expression.
Why did you decide to join this community?

Bonnie,

Nice to hear from you. Thanks for taking the time to write.

Would love to hear more about your adventures in NZ, permaculture and your leg injury.
I have been nursing a knee injury along now for several years. Compound tear in one of my knees that I had surgery for last January. It was 100% better until I started the garden back up in March. I am now in a daily dance with it's limitations. 2-3 hours walking and working. Ice it down. Rest. 2-3 more hours in the evening. Digging is totally out and that is a BIG problem for a gardener....

This summer has been a real challenge with the temperatures being the hottest here in 70 years and a drought to boot. I've managed to keep things alive by watering around the clock (we have a well and a hose!) but it's been far more of a challenge than I anticipated. I have a month or so left and then I can tuck everything in for winter and hope for a better year next year and a chance to focus on how to help my knee.

I have a whole new appreciation for having your legs work the way you want... as you mentioned. Hiking I love too and I'm beginning to dearly miss it. In my case it hasn't been lost just hindered.

My heart goes out to you and glad you're able to hike again. It must be stunning in Colorado now. We're actually beginning a discussion about possibly moving in 2-3 years and the Boulder area is on our list... you might get a series of questions from us later!

I have questions too about your energy healing work. Would love to hear more about your background, training and interests in that field as my wife and I both have a deep interest in that arena... My wife apprenticed to a granny midwife in N. Carolina for years, (she's an RN and works in a local hospital delivering babies now) she's also a massage therapist and has a background in touch for health, acupressure and reflexology.... My interests have paralleled hers in many respects and I've learned from her training. Our children were birthed at home as well and that required quite a bit of preparation and learning on my part as well as hers... and we both loved the experiences...

Thanks again for writing. I promise more later. Wes

Alright, your profile is entirely as interesting as I suspected it would be! I just spent 10 minutes reading it, and plan to come back and read more.

We made a little bit of connection during the time that I was in NZ with The Gary's, writing the reports back to NHNE and Permaculture in NZ etc. It might be nice to exchange a few ideas here and there, now that Ning has made it so easy!!
