Friends of mine are selling their custom-built strawbale solar-and-wind-powered home on 40 acres in a mountain valley of Colorado. Its activated my fantasies of living away from human civilization. This seems to be a common fantasy among my peers – one that we share, but few of us achieve. The ones who achieve it successfully have my undying admiration. I know of a few who live that way and would never go back to a city ag…

Thanks for writing!
Doing much dreaming lately?
I have been very busy building Dream Yoga in several cities in Germany! Many new friends! It's such a blessing watching lives heal, balance, and transform!
Namaste,
Joseph
I've read about Permanculture -- I have Mollison's IntroductionDesign Manual. I've considered adding some ornamental elderberry (the black and lime green are beautiful, and I love to make elderberry jelly -- perfect combination!). I've considered hazelnut trees, though the Japanese beetles shred those around here. Blueberry bushes are another edible, beautiful option, but I'd have to be careful to keep the soil ph where it needs to be. I know there are strawberry options (alpine?). Also, I have chickens and heritage breed turkeys wandering about, which may cut down on my harvest!
I went to a Pennsylvania sustainable ag conference in February, and Lee Reich (Uncommon Fruits for Every Gardener) described growing other alternative edibles, such as paw paw, pears, odd-ball berries, nanking cherries, medlars, and more, all of which are native and don't require spraying. I'm going to go order his book.
In any case, I'm having as much fun researching the possibilities as actually doing it. If you have any ideas, I'm open!
(I posted this SOMEWHERE once, but I don't know where it went! So if it's a repeat, feel free to delete it!)
