Quotes Worth Pondering

"I have come to the frightening conclusion that I am the decisive element. It is my personal approach that creates the climate. It is my daily mood that makes the weather. I possess tremendous power to make life miserable or joyous. I can be a tool of torture or an instrument of inspiration; I can humiliate or humor, hurt or heal. In all situations, it is my response that decides whether a crisis is escalated or de-escalated, and a person humanized or de-humanized. If we treat people as they are, we make them worse. If we treat people as they ought to be, we help them become what they are capable of becoming." -- Johann Wolfgang von Goethe (1749 - 1832)

............

"I used to believe that making a contribution to others required that I give them information. Now I believe that the biggest contribution I can make is to ask the right question and listen." --- Bobbie Burdett

Welcome Earthling.

This website has been created for fans and readers of NHNE (www.nhne.org). The goal of this website is to create a super-charged atmosphere of exploration in which you can join together with others of like mind to explore life's big questions -- Who are we? Why are we here? Where are we headed? What is the origin and purpose of life? -- as well as the "nuts and bolts" questions of daily living: How can we live meaningful lives, become better people, achieve our full potentials, form deep, mutually empowering relationships, and help ourselves, and our planet, make a safe passage through the turbulent times in which we live?

These topics cover a lot of territory, which means we encourage serious discussion about everything. And this website provides everyone who lives here with lots of powerful tools to ask questions, share experiences, offer advice, and find and connect with others who share similar interests. We've got blogs, forums, profiles, and the ability to post photos and videos out the gazoo. And while NHNE controls what appears on the community home page, our readers control what appears on theirs.

In order to create a safe environment in which deep discussions can take place, we do, however, expect everyone who creates a home on this website to conduct themselves in a civil and respectful fashion. Diverse perspectives are welcomed and appreciated. So, too, are strong opinions, as long as those strong opinions do not include excessive efforts to convert others, or attack or demean those who see things differently.

In order to go as deep and as far as we can, and learn as much as we can from one another, we also encourage all of our members to be as open and honest as possible. False identities, and all manner of fabricated and/or embellished life stories are not welcome (we have our hands full trying to understand authentic life experiences without adding fake ones to the mix).

One disclaimer: much of the material on this website has not been screened or censored by the Mother Ship. Instead, it has been posted by NHNE fans and readers who hail from all over the world and embrace a wide diversity of beliefs and interests. Keep that in mind, especially if you are preparing to bet your life on something or someone you encounter here.

And with that, welcome! We sincerely hope this website helps everyone who sets foot here climb a little farther, faster, and higher up the mountain of life.

Informative (& Funny) UFO Interview

Mandatory FM interviews independent filmmaker James Fox, creator of "Out of the Blue: The Definitive Investigation of the UFO Phenomenon." James and his film crew joined John and Pamela in studio Monday, January 21, 2008 with film crew in tow, to discuss the Stephenville UFO sightings as well as his next documentary project which continues to investigate the evidence supporting the existence of UFOs. Very interesting, and informative, interview. Listen here.

The Secret Of Happiness

MONEY BUYS HAPPINESS -- IF YOU SPEND ON SOMEONE ELSE Reporting by Maggie Fox, editing by Will Dunham and Todd Eastham Reuters March 20, 2008 WASHINGTON - Money can buy happiness, but only if you spend it on someone else, researchers reported on Thursday. Spending as little as $5 a day on someone else could significantly boost happiness, the team at the University of British Columbia and Harvard Business School f… Continue

Meditation 1

I'm learning things about meditation, s-l-o-w-l-y. This week I learned about gaps. Like just about everyone, I have trouble stilling my mind. I'm reading Nisargadatta Maharaj's I am That, and received this insight: I'm not always thinking. In between thoughts, which for me are nearly always verbal, or a visual with captions (!), there is a silence. This silence is the screen, so to speak, upon which thoughts are projected. That screen is the I am. (Oh, I realize this is much more t… Continue

Human scale farming and the question of profit

Recently, I was part of a discussion among women farmers (Promoting Ohio Women in Agriculture) about the new (or proposed) rules for safe handling of vegetables. New farmers are often intimidated by state and federal (or county for that matter) rules and regulations for so many aspects of a farming business.

Some food-handling trends disturb me. First of all, while I certainly don't want to be responsible for 3-year-old being on dialysis for the rest of her life from eating tainted sp… Continue

Local and global

I note that not a lot of people comment on each other's blogs. The forums seem kind of slow. Nevertheless, I like the aim and mood of this site. I like checking out people's profiles, seeing what they care about. My world is just fuller knowing other people like that are in it.

This blog space is good, I think, as a quiet, open space to think in. Sometimes you simply want to hash through a thought or a question. Maybe someone will respond, but if not, I can be in colloquy with myself.… Continue

Rodale Organic Farming Video

I'm posting a comment about the video here, because I couldn't type anything in the comment box on the page. I'm still learning how to navigate the site. I have it listed in my favorites, if you haven't seen it.

In any case, the video presents the situation accurately. The farmer, Percy Schmeiser, who is profiled at the beginning had been a Canola farmer (rape seed) for decades. For 40 years he had carefully, meticulously saved the best seed from his crops. He and his family made a li… Continue
